A strong earthquake magnitude 6.5 hit Seram Island─located in eastern Indonesia, the Island is part of Maluku Province─today at 8:46 a.m. local time. At this moment, no tsunami warning has been issued.

Indonesia’s seismological agency BMKG has calculated a preliminary 6.8 magnitude but the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) determined a bit lower magnitude (6.5).

It was reported that the quake struck around 18 miles under the surface, which indicates that it was a shallow earthquake.

Although the shaking was felt in all the region there is no official death toll yet, injured or building damaged report.
